Coolies

PROJECT A: COOLIES HAT

Creating a COOLIES HAT would be a perfect project for MATH objectives:

Measurement 48" of rope/string, geometry measuring for the radius of the hat and cutting and overlapping at a 30 degree acute angle, as well as cutting and measuring the straw to fit the hat's radius. Prediction can also be involved with estimating how many pieces of straw it will take to fill the top of the hat and determining what the variables are.

step 1

Materials needed:

  1. scissor
  2. long rope
  3. paper or styrofoam plate
  4. ruler
  5. glue
  6. straw (can be drinking straw)
  7. stapler

step 2 Measure the hats radius.

step 3

Cut the straws to the length of the hats radius.

Glue the straws to the hats.

step 4 Braids can be made from black garbage bag, cloth, etc...

PROJECT B: COOLIES BRAIDS (QUEUE)

Students used red, white, and blue yarn, braided it, and made patriotic bracelets and belts to wear to remind everyone to vote.
